Specifying a system
What information does an installer need before selecting a battery system?
EI Battery Solutions2 November 2026 1 min read
The site facts that decide which battery and inverter can actually be used — gathered before anyone picks a model.
Outline — draft for review
1. Start with the supply
- Single phase or three phase, and how it is confirmed rather than assumed.
- Main switchboard arrangement and available space.
- Network and export requirements that apply to the site.
2. The loads the customer actually wants covered
- Everyday consumption versus the loads wanted during an outage.
- Which loads are motor-started, and why that matters to power rating.
- Separating "nice to have" from "must stay on".
3. The physical site
- Where the equipment can be mounted, and the clearances required.
- Cable routes and distances between inverter, battery and switchboard.
- Ambient conditions and anything affecting the location choice.
4. The solar side
- Existing array details, or the planned panel model and quantity.
- Roof orientations, shading and available area.
- Why string design is confirmed by the installer, not the supplier.
5. Compatibility checks
- Matching battery voltage architecture to the inverter.
- Controllers, bases and accessories that are required rather than optional.
- Documentation to request from the manufacturer where anything is unclear.
6. A short pre-enquiry checklist
- The compact list to work through before sending us an enquiry.
Writer's notes: supply-only framing — design, installation and compliance sit with the licensed contractor. No invented compatibility claims; verify against manufacturer documentation. Australian English throughout.
